Lisa Bozikovic is a Toronto singer-songwriter, community arts worker and multi-instrumentalist who “maps out introspective narratives with clear, evocative turns of phrase, then uses her nuanced delivery to magnify each emotional dip and swerve” (CBC Sarah List). On both her debut album Lost August (Dec 2009) and recent release This is How we Swim (Fall 2012), she worked with co-producers Sandro Perri and Heather Kirby to embellish her keys arrangements with experimental techniques and lush orchestration. She has toured across Canada opening for indie pop band Ohbijou, who also acted as her supporting band, playing festivals such as Lawnya Vawnya in Newfoundland and Festival Folk du Quebec. In April 2012, she collaborated with author and activist Maggie Macdonald and Stevie Jackson (Belle and Sebastian) on the arrangements for the musical Paper Laced With Gold, and also played keys and sang in the production, which premiered at Harbourfront Centre as part of the HATCH series in 2012. Lisa teaches music and facilitates songwriting workshops for children, young adults and seniors in a variety of community arts and theatre settings. She also facilitates bereavement peer support groups through Bereaved Families of Ontario, and works as an artist mentor for queer youth through SOY Toronto. Through her artistic practice and community work, she has become passionate about the power of music, writing and storytelling to transform loss and grief into potential healing.
